how to stop manifesting bad things

4 Steps to Stop Manifesting Your Fears & Negative Thoughts

Manifestation can be frustrating. You set intentions and try to be positive, but doubts keep coming up, nothing seems to be happening, and you may even manifest your fears instead of your dreams.

First, you aren’t a bad or unworthy person, you just need to do an internal reset. The reason things you don’t want to manifest are showing up is because deep in your subconscious mind you have beliefs that the crappy things you’re experiencing are supposed to happen, or that for some irrational reason you aren’t allowed to have the things you desire.

In order to stop manifesting your fears you have to gain awareness of the beliefs and actions that are creating what you don’t want, then you have to start healing your belief system and taking positive actions. You have to take responsibility for your reality, take back your power, and make your belief in yourself stronger than the fear.

Why You’re Manifesting Bad Things

1. Your belief system isn’t in alignment with what you want

Beliefs are an important part of our lives. They shape who we are, what we do, and how we feel. Unfortunately, many of our beliefs are not in alignment with what we want to experience.

Your beliefs determine your choices in life, and your actions along with your vibration (the energy you’re sending out to the universe) have created most of what you experience in life.

If your current reality is a manifestation of your past belief system, naturally your future reality will be a manifestation of your current beliefs.

So if you want to manifest better things in the future, you’ve got to change your present beliefs. More on this later.

2. You’re giving your power away

A huge reason that we manifest things that make us unhappy is that we have given our power away. We’ve let outside factors influence, limit, and control us instead of choosing our own paths.

Some signs that you’ve given away your power are:

  • Listening to your fear and doubt (Ego) instead of your Intuition.
  • Waiting for someone else to give you what you want.
  • Blaming others for your choices and the results of those choices.
  • Living to get external validation (acceptance and approval).
  • Listening to other people’s opinions instead of your own.
  • Making excuses not to take action.
  • You give up at the first sign of resistance.

When you give your power away you end up manifesting your fears instead of your heart felt desires. If you want to stop manifesting negative things then you have to take full responsibility for your life and realize that you can’t make excuses or wait for someone else to make your dreams happen.

3. You don’t have a clear vision for your life

The first step of manifestation is setting a crystal clear intention for what you want and why you want it.

If you don’t have a vision for your life, it’s hard to find the path that will lead you there. Instead of having a clear picture of where you want to be, you’re wandering aimlessly through life without any real purpose or direction and you’ll manifest a lousy reality that reflects this.

This lack of clarity creates chaos and makes it hard to manifest things that will make you happy.

This doesn’t mean you have to have your whole life figured out by any means, but you can know what your values are and how you want to feel about yourself and the life you’ve created.

It’s also important to ask if you’re trying to manifest something for the right reasons. Sometimes we fall into a trap of wanting things that society or our family tells us we should want, but deep down it’s not aligned for us and so we manifest the wrong things.

When you focus on what you truly want, and not on what other people want, you start to attract the right things into your life.

How to Stop Manifesting Your Fears

1. Awareness

Awareness is the first step to stop manifesting your fears. As we discussed, your current reality is the result of your past beliefs, so what are the beliefs that created the things you don’t like about your life?

Maybe you keep getting into toxic relationships, so ask what beliefs won’t allow you to have a healthy relationship.

Or you may sabotage your finances with reckless spending, so ask why it doesn’t feel safe for you to keep money around.

Take an honest look at the bad things you’re manifesting and find the thoughts, emotions, and beliefs that lay underneath them.

Once you are more in touch with what is going on inside of you, you will be better equipped to manage and control your fears. Practice meditation or mindfulness to increase your awareness of your surroundings and inner self.

2. Rewire your belief system

As we discussed, if you are unhappy with your current life, it’s time to take a look at your belief system.

Your belief system is the sum total of all your thoughts, feelings and beliefs about yourself, the world and the universe. It’s what tells you who you are and how you should behave. If your belief system isn’t in alignment with what you want, then it’s time to make some changes.

The first step is to identify which beliefs are holding you back. Here are two questions to ask yourself:

  • When you think about a goal or dream, what are your excuses for not going after it? Why are those excuses not the truth?
  • When you think about something you want, what fears come up about either why you’ll fail to get it, or why you won’t be able to handle having it?

Once you know what beliefs are behind your excuses and fear, start working on replacing them with a new positive story that will help you manifest your goals.

My favorite way to rewire the subconscious mind and create new beliefs is through affirmations, and you can use them to create the belief that only your positive thoughts manifest. I suggest listening to the following video everyday for a few weeks until the idea that you only manifest positive things is an assumption.

Here are 100 affirmations for positivity.

By changing your belief system, you will stop manifesting things you don’t want.

You also have to stop waiting to be happy until you have the perfect life. Learn to appreciate what you have now, even if it’s not as exciting or glamorous as the things you want to have.

3. Give your Inner Child permission to have what you want

Our belief systems are formed in childhood, which is why we sometimes have irrational beliefs that keep us from the things we want most. We pick up these negative beliefs from things we’re told by our parents, or traumatic events that create a strong negative emotional response.

When we have an unhealed Inner Child we often end up manifesting our fears.

Say you want to manifest abundance but instead your income level is stuck, money disappears as soon as you get it, and there is always a financial disaster on the horizon.

Well, look at your experiences with money as a child. Perhaps your parents said rich people are evil, making money is really hard, money doesn’t grow on trees, we can’t afford that, we’ll never get ahead, etc.

As a child you constantly heard these things and because you trust your parents you believe them. So you have these buried beliefs that you are unconsciously acting on.

You have to reparent yourself and give your Inner Child permission to have the things you want. You have to realize that those old beliefs were just a story you learned and they weren’t the truth.

A way to do this is to close your eyes, picture your child self in your mind, and ask them if you’re allowed to have the thing you want to manifest. You’ll probably find that they say no, so you have to have a conversation with them and make them feel safe having that thing.

This is something I help you do in my program Transcendence if you’d like to get some more tools for Inner Child healing.

4. Take Responsibility

It’s so tempting to blame other people or the world for the bad things that show up in our lives, but we can’t control what anyone else does so if you’re waiting for something else to fix your life you’ll be waiting forever.

You’re giving your power away when you think that the things you want must come from outside yourself. You don’t have to wait for someone or something to bring you what you want; you can create it by using the power of your thoughts and your actions.

Take responsibility for your thoughts and feelings. Recognize that you are the only one who can change how you feel. Then look for tiny little steps you can take to manifest what you want, even though you may still be afraid.

Practice acceptance. Allow yourself to experience the fear and allow it to pass without making it a controlling force in your life. When you start taking action towards your fears, it will help to diminish their power over you.

How to Stop Negative Visualizations from Manifesting

It can be helpful to visualize yourself overcoming your fear and achieving your goal, but sometimes we can’t stop visualizing bad things over and over in our minds.

As someone with a very vivid imagination I can get lost in doom spirals for hours. If you’re anything like me it’s no wonder you’re afraid of manifesting bad things. This is why it’s a good thing that there is a delay between setting an intention and it manifesting into reality.

Here are a few visualization tricks I’ve learned to stop myself when I’m visualizing bad things.
