Summer Essentials You Can’t Live Without
Products to Keep You Cool In Summer
Cooling Blanket – I bought this cooling blanket last summer because I was so hot that I couldn’t sleep at night and it really helps. If you have pets get them a cooling pad as well.
Portable Mini Air Conditioner – This portable mini a/c unit is really helpful if you don’t have air conditioning. It may not cool an entire room but when you put cold water in it, it works better than a fan and can get you through hot days and nights.
Rechargeable Misting Fan – This rechargeable fan is a great option for when you’re outside or traveling. The battery lasts up to 8 hours and you can put water inside to have it mist you.
Handheld Mini Fan USB Powered – If you want a smaller fan option this works great.
Simple Modern Insulated Tumbler with Lid and Straw – I know I don’t have to tell you that drinking lots of water in summer is a must, but you can make it easier by having an insulated cup nearby. I bought my Simple Modern cup in 2020 and it still looks new so I recommend this brand.
Summer Skincare and Beauty Favorites
Electric Face Scrubber – This little scrubber is great to fully get off all the summer SPF and sweat to keep your skin clear. I’ve been using it daily for a few months now and the battery lasts over a month and I hardly ever have breakouts anymore. It comes in 6 colors!
Acure Radically Rejuvenating Cleansing Cream – This face wash foams very nicely & works great with the scrubber I linked to above.
Portable Mini Facial Steamer/Mister – You can put in warm water to help open your pores before using a mask or serum, or if you want to cool off you can put in cold water.
Honeydew Labs 0.015% Hypochlorous Acid Spray – This antibacterial spray helps treat acne, irritation, redness, eczema, and rosacea. Since we are sweating and using more SPF in the summer, this is really helpful for keeping breakouts away. The spray bottle makes it really easy to use when you’re feeling lazy or tired after a day of summer activities.
Naked Sunday’s Cabana Creme Daily Sunscreen Moisturizer SPF50 – We all know how important SPF is, especially in the summer (but you should be using it year-round). This facial SPF is great. They also have a mineral option.
Naked Sunday’s SPF50+ Hydrating Glow Mist – This is a good option to spray over makeup. I’ve tried several SPF face sprays and they always spray unevenly, but the Naked Sunday’s Glow Mist has such a fine and even mist, it’s really the best on the market right now.
Hawaiian Tropic Mineral Powder Sunscreen Brush, SPF 30 – If you don’t like using SPF facial mists, this is a good powder options that won’t leave you feeling oily.
Revlon Kiss Tinted Lip Balm SPF 20 – I realized recently that the one area that isn’t getting protected is my lips, so I searched for SPF lip balms and found this. I have the tropical coconut flavor which is sheer and lightweight. It doesn’t smell or taste like spf at all so I highly recommend it! It feels pretty moisturizing when I put it on but for moisture I use the following product.
LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask – I’ve always struggled with dry lips and this is the only product that’s ever worked, I use it mostly in the day time but before bed too.
Glass Foot File – Keep your feet looking cute in your sandals. This works so much better than any other foot scrubber I’ve used! Use on wet feet after you shower. You can thank me later!
Scalp Scrubber with Soft Silicone Bristles – Since we sweat more in the summer it can be nice to get your scalp extra clean with a good scrub. If you have dandruff you need this, I haven’t had any since I started using this once or twice a week.
Silk’n Infinity At Home Permanent Hair Removal – I hate shaving because I always get skin irritation, so I’ve been using Silk’n intermittently over the years and have seen a permanent reduction of 95% of my leg hair and over 50% of my underarm hair (thicker hair takes longer). It works!
Lotion/SPF/Self Tan Applicator – If you also have a hard time applying lotion or sunblock to your back, this applicator is so helpful!
Snacks & Supplements
Vega Protein Made Simple Strawberry Banana – This is the protein powder I love, it’s fine on it’s own with milk and the texture for this flavor is good. I did not care for the chocolate as it had a weird texture and earthy flavor. If you want to make it extra tasty add a bit of strawberry or chocolate syrup!
I mix it with this Handheld Milk Frother for Lattes. I don’t have the patience to use a blender for my protein shake, so I use this milk frother to blend my protein powder in oat milk! No more lumps and you just quickly rinse it clean or wiz it in some soapy water. The frother comes in tons of fun colors.
Liquid I.V. Electrolyte Powder Drink Mix – It’s important to stay hydrated in summer, so if you’re out in the heat add some electrolytes to your water.
Magnesium Glycinate – A few months ago I read that Magnesium Glycinate helps with sleep so I started taking it and I can’t praise it enough! It used to take me at least 2 hours to fall asleep each night, now I’m out within 20 minutes. The brand I linked to has tiny capsules so they are really easy to swallow!
Nature’s Bakery Double Chocolate Brownie Bars – These brownie bars are my new favorite summer snack. Since these are a “healthy” version of a brownie they don’t have the exact taste and texture of a brownie, but they are really really close and I genuinely love them! I eat them with vanilla ice cream when I want to be really indulgent.
Summer Home Products
Flying Insect Trap – This bug trap has saved my sanity. It catches gnats, flies, moths, and most importantly (to me) mosquitos. Mosquito bites are very painful for me so I do anything I can to avoid them, and this little machine attracts them to UV light and sucks them onto a sticky pad. It works so great, just look at the photos in the reviews
If you do get a mosquito bite (I have one on my hand right now) the best way to stop the itching is by putting a damp washcloth in the microwave for 10-20 seconds or until it’s quite hot—but not burning—and hold it over the bite for 30 seconds. The bite will burn for a few seconds, but after that it won’t itch for several hours. This is the only method that’s worked for me.
The Best Summer Romance Books
Just for the Summer – “Justin has a curse. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They’ll date each other and break up, and their curses will cancel each other’s out.”
This was one of my favorite books so far this year. It’s a funny and sweet romance, but just be warned that it does deal with childhood abandonment trauma.
The Unhoneymooners – “For two sworn enemies, anything can happen during the Hawaiian trip of a lifetime—maybe even love.”
Once I started I couldn’t stop reading, I loved this story!
Beach Read – “A romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engage in a summer-long challenge that may just upend everything they believe about happily ever afters.”
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It didn’t play out how i expected, but it was fun and interesting.
